India stands on the cusp of a transformative green revolution, with ambitious renewable energy targets and a Net Zero goal by 2070. The government’s upcoming CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) Mission aims to accelerate adoption through financial incentives like PLIs, VGFs, loans, and grants. Likewise, India’s Climate Panchamitra Goals outline a transformative path toward sustainability and achieving Net Zero goals. According to estimates by IIT Madras, accelerating net zero to 2047 would require an estimated investment of $3.4 trillion.

However, achieving these goals requires overcoming significant financing challenges, from scaling solar, wind, and biogas projects to supporting cleantech innovations and making EVs affordable for retail consumers. This series of panels and briefings explores the critical funding barriers, innovative solutions, and strategies needed to unlock India’s potential as a global leader in sustainability.

To spotlight these themes, the AFAI is organizing a National Summit & Awards 2025 on "Green Financing and Investment: Achieving Net Zero by 2070 on March 5th, 2025, New Delhi. This summit brings together the most influential leaders and captains of the industry to foster meaningful collaborations, inspire groundbreaking innovations, and set the stage for the future of Green Finance and Investment in India. This summit stands as a beacon of progress, driving the industry toward greater financial inclusion, economic growth, and sustainable development to achieve net zero by 2070.

Fueling Green Transition: Innovative Financing for Solar, Wind, Hydrogen, and Biofuels

To achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2070, India requires trillions of dollars in groen financing but currently secures only about one-fourth of the required funds. The transition to clean energy (primarily solar, wind, biofuels, and hydrogen) faces challenges such as short loan tenures, high capital costs, insufficient debt financing, and the absence of a comprehensive groan taxonomy, restricting wide-ranging investments. Addressing those gaps requires innovative financing solutions tailored to accelerate the adoptionofclean energy solutions.

Session 2

The Road Ahead for EVs: How Financial Institutions and Investors are Engineering the Future

India aims for 30% EV sales in private cars, 70% in commercial vehicles, 40% in buses, and 80% in two- and three- whoolers, targeting 80 million EVs on the roads by 2030. However, achieving 2030 targets faces hurdles like Information gaps among 33% of climate financiers, high risks, evolving tech, and long returns requiring patient capital. Charging infrastructure struggles with uncertain demand high costs, and unsustainable cash inflows, hindering growth. Bridging these challenges demands strategic financial interventions and innovative solutions to drive the EVecosystem forward.

Session 3

Pathways for the Next Cleantech Unicorns: Funding India’s Growing Clean Energy Sector

By FY2050, the CleanTech industry will lead as the primary global source of power. However, investment in Indian cleantech MSMEs remains disproportionately low relative to the vast fund sites of financial institutions, which profor backing projects with substantial scaling potential The challenge for these early-stage companies/MSMEs lies in refining their business models to me at scalability requirements and become fundable. A significant hurdle is the rigorous due diligence process, often hampered by a lack of adequate data to validate the technological viability of cleantech innovations

Session 4

EV and Solar Rooftop Adoption by Retail Consumers: Banks, NBFCs, and Other Financial Institutions as Key Enablers

EV and Solar Rooftop Adoption by Retail Consumers: Banks, NBFCs, and Other Financial Institutions as Key Enablers As of March 2024, India's residential rooftop solar capacity reached 3.20W (27% oftatal rooftop installations). Inthe EV sector, retall adoption constituted about 5% of total vehicle sales between October 2022 and September 2023, indicating growing demand High interest rates, short loan tenures, low LTV ratios, and high purchase costs hinder adoption Umited participation from banks and NBFCs, coupled with a lack oftailored financial products for EV and
